The 1st Choosing Wisely Italy Conference will take place at the IRCCS Mario Negri Institute in Milan on March 23, 2018. The conference will have the presence of Wendy Levinson, professor of medicine at the University of Toronto and leader of Choosing Wisely Canada and International.

The Conference will be preceded, March 22, 2018, by some workshops dedicated to the spread and the implementation of the recommendations and aimed specifically at physicians and other health professionals, patients and students.

The program

Program of the workshop “Choosing Wisely Italy for students and physicians in training: meeting with Wendy Levinson (English language)”

The Italian Choosing Wisely campaign has followed from its launch and will follow in future these principles:

  1. The campaign must be clinician-led (as opposed to payer/government led). This is important to building and sustaining the trust of clinicians and patients.
  2. Key messages in the campaign must emphasize quality of care and harm prevention, rather than cost reduction.
  3. The campaign must be patient-focused and involve efforts to engage patients in the process, as communication between clinicians and patients is central to Choosing Wisely. Patients, or groups representing patients’ interests, should be engaged in the development and/or implementation of the campaign.

The oral presentation of Sandra Vernero at the conference "Evidence Live 2016", University of Oxford, June 22-24 2016, in the session: Disentangling the Problems of Too Much & Too Little Medicine/Improving the Quality of Research Evidence.

Dr Wendy Levinson, chair of the campaign Choosing Wisely Canada and a leader of the movement Choosing Wisely International, says she is very happy that the Third International Roundtable on Choosing Wisely will take place in Rome. The roundtable brings together leaders from campaigns that are underway or planned in 17 countries. Being hosted in Rome provides an opportunity to showcase the innovation and progress of the Italian Choosing Wisely campaign, promoted by Italy’s Slow Medicine.
